As a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist, Dr Hayley Peckston provides care to women of all ages and through different life stages.
Her obstetrics specialities include pre-pregnancy, early pregnancy complications, antenatal care, management of high-risk pregnancies and pregnancy complications, management of labour and delivery, and postnatal care.
Dr Peckston’s gynaecological care spans menstrual abnormalities, adolescent gynaecology, recurrent pregnancy loss, infertility, pelvic pain, pap smear abnormalities, contraception, menopause, prolapse, urinary/bladder problems, postmenopausal bleeding, sexual dysfunction, vulval disorders and ovarian cysts. She also completes pelvic, vaginal and laparoscopic surgery for gynaecological concerns.
Having wanted to be a doctor from a very young age, Dr Peckston completed a Bachelor of Science (Biomedical Science) [BSc] in 2003 and Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2007, both at the University of Queensland.
She realised very early in her years as a medical student that her real passion was in obstetrics and gynaecology – and she finds nothing more magical than that moment when parents meet their baby for the first time. Therefore, she went on to complete her Fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) in 2019.
Dr Peckston undertook her internship at Nambour Hospital. She has worked in registrar and senior registrar roles across obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatric and adolescent gynaecology and maternal fetal medicine at the Logan Hospital, QEII Hospital, Mater Mother’s Hospital and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH).
As the eldest of five children and a mother of two girls, Dr Peckston has a personal understanding of pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period and beyond. She takes great satisfaction in supporting and empowering women by providing evidence-based treatment and care throughout their entire life.
Her patients commonly comment that she has really listened to their specific concerns and they feel informed and involved in their management plan.
Outside of work, Dr Peckston enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and children. She also enjoys a range of fitness activities, cooking and eating great food, and travel.
Dr Peckston holds memberships with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Registration Number: MED0001219877), Australian Gynaecological Endoscopy Society, Australasian Menopause Society, Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand and Australian society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology.
Her continuing professional development and studies are centred on keeping up to date with the latest evidence-based care. Activities include attending conferences, reading journals and guidelines, and participating in surgical courses. Dr Peckston also contributes to guideline documents and teaches medical students and junior registrars at the RBWH.
